RE:WORK FIELD GUIDE · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 25, 2026
Skills and social capital in Chicago workforce development.
A person can have ability and ambition without access to the relationships that make their work visible. re:WORK brings practical career-search skills and professional community together to help address that gap.
01 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Teach the work of creating a next step.
The Go To Market Career Academy uses sales strategy to teach jobseekers how to research employers, explain their value, start relevant conversations, and manage opportunities. Participants practice acting as their own BDR or SDR in a career search.
Many participants pursue sales roles. The research, communication, and follow-through also transfer to other paths alongside the qualifications a particular occupation requires. Explore the Academy and its two learning options.
02 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Make relationships part of the practice.
Social capital grows when people learn what you can do and trust how you show up. Candidates practice thoughtful outreach, informational conversations, and reliable follow-through. Volunteers can contribute professional perspective and feedback.
Relationships complement applications. Candidates can apply to suitable openings while building connections; a referral or internal contact is not a prerequisite.
