RE:WORK FIELD GUIDE · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 25, 2026
A professional community can help you understand unfamiliar work, get feedback, and stay engaged in your search. Begin with curiosity and a useful reason to connect.
01 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Choose a role, industry, or question you want to understand. Look for people whose experience is relevant. A specific question makes it easier for someone to decide whether they can help.
For example, ask what a new BDR needs to learn in the first months of a role, or how a professional made a career transition. Avoid opening with a demand for a job, referral, or ongoing mentorship.
02 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Explain who you are, why their perspective is relevant, and what you hope to learn. Keep the request focused and give the person room to decline. Prepare before a conversation so you can use the time well.
Use the relevant outreach framework and plan an informational interview.
03 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Capture what you learned and any agreed next step. Avoid storing unnecessary personal information.
Revise your research, practice answer, or application when the feedback is relevant. You remain responsible for your decisions.
Thank the person and, when appropriate, share how their perspective helped. Respect their time and contact preferences.
04 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Contribute a resource you have checked, offer thoughtful peer feedback, or share a lesson from your own search. Support should be useful rather than transactional. People are not simply a route to an employer.
