Academy & jobseekers

The program, the process, and what to expect along the way.

Is the Go To Market Career Academy really free?

Yes. The Go To Market Career Academy is free for learners. There is no tuition, program fee, or income share agreement. re:WORK TRAINING is a nonprofit supported by donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

Your commitment is to the work: learning, practicing, completing missions, and following through.

Is this only for people who want a sales job?

No. Many learners pursue sales roles, including business development representative (BDR) and sales development representative (SDR) positions. The skills also transfer to other career paths.

We teach you to treat your job search like a business of one: understand your market, communicate your value, research employers, build relationships, and track opportunities. You practice acting as your own BDR or SDR. The Academy does not replace the technical qualifications a particular role may require.

Do I need a college degree or previous sales experience?

No. A college degree and prior sales experience are not required. Bring a willingness to learn, practice new skills, ask for feedback, and follow through. Your previous work and life experience can help you explain the value you bring to an employer.

Can I start today, or do I need to wait for a cohort?

You have two options:

  • Start at your own pace. The Academy in MissionXP is available now. Work through lessons and missions on your schedule, with support from the community.
  • Join a quarterly cohort. Our eight-week cohorts begin once per quarter and add structured instruction, coaching, and peer learning. Register your interest to begin the intake process. We cover schedules and time commitments live in orientation.

Start the free Academy in MissionXP or register interest in a quarterly cohort. You can start the self-paced Academy while waiting for a cohort.

Can self-paced learners join a cohort later?

Yes, self-paced learners may be considered for a cohort based on their commitment to the process. Working through missions, participating in the community, and following through can help demonstrate that commitment. The team will discuss the next step and confirm cohort placement with you.

How much time should I set aside?

Self-paced learning follows your schedule. Make room for watching lessons, researching employers, completing missions, getting feedback, and having professional conversations.

Cohorts run for eight weeks. We cover the weekly time commitment, live-session schedule, and attendance expectations live in orientation, where you can ask questions about how the cohort fits your schedule.

Do I have to live in Chicago?

No. re:WORK TRAINING is based in Chicago, and learners can participate remotely from across the United States. The Academy and community support are available online.

What happens after I submit the candidate interest form?

Watch your email for next steps, including a short video assessment. The team reviews your information and guides you through cohort consideration. If selected, you will receive orientation information. We cover the cohort schedule and time commitment live in orientation.

You can begin the self-paced Academy in MissionXP while that process is underway. Cohort placement is confirmed separately after the review process.

Can the Academy help if I already have professional experience?

Yes. Experienced professionals can use the Academy to sharpen their positioning, focus their outreach, and build a more deliberate job-search process. Self-paced learning lets you manage your own schedule.

Bring your experience into the work. Review the curriculum to see how it builds on what you know. The team can help you understand which requirements apply to your learning path.

What will I learn and practice?

You will build a go-to-market strategy for your job search through research, personal positioning, outreach, professional conversations, and follow-through. The course includes seven required missions that turn learning into practical work.

You can apply to suitable open roles while building relationships. A referral is not a prerequisite for applying.

Explore the Academy curriculum for the learning journey and the Academy syllabus for the course structure and expectations.

Does re:WORK guarantee a job, interview, or referral?

No. We provide learning, practice, community, and opportunities to build professional relationships. Interviews, referrals, and hiring decisions depend on the people and organizations involved. Your effort matters, and results also depend on role fit, employer needs, and the job market.

Our focus is helping you build the skill, trust, and follow-through to pursue opportunities more effectively.

What tools do I need? Can I use AI?

You need internet access and a device that can play videos, take screenshots, record a spoken response, and prepare a resume as a PDF. You will use MissionXP, LinkedIn, and a calendar to organize your work.

An AI writing tool is optional. Use it to support your thinking and revision, and check its output carefully. Your experience, claims, and submitted work should accurately represent you.

Are learner stipends available?

A learner stipend fund is a future funding priority, not a benefit we currently promise. Any stipend availability, eligibility, and amounts will depend on secured funding and finalized program terms. The Academy itself remains free for learners.

Champions & volunteers

Start with a useful conversation. Build from there.

What is a Champion, and how do I get involved?

A Champion is a volunteer who helps learners build skills, confidence, and professional relationships. You might review a resume, practice an interview answer, explain a role, facilitate a workshop, or help improve learning materials.

Complete the Champion interest form. The team reviews your experience and available opportunities. Approved Champions receive orientation and resources before choosing an activity and time commitment.

Do I have to work in sales to volunteer?

No. Experience in recruiting, interviewing, coaching, enablement, leadership, customer success, and related fields can also be useful. Share what you know and the kinds of support you can offer; the team will help identify an appropriate opportunity.

How much time does volunteering take? Is it virtual?

Most opportunities are virtual, and you can begin with one contribution. Coaching conversations and workshops are often around an hour; preparation varies by activity. The invitation will explain the expected time before you accept.

You can choose opportunities that fit your schedule. You do not have to commit to ongoing mentoring to get started.

Will I have guidance before working with a learner?

Yes. Approved Champions receive orientation and resources relevant to the activity, such as coaching frameworks, playbooks, or workshop materials. The team can help you understand the purpose of the session and what useful support looks like.

For volunteer questions, contact samiyah@reworktraining.org.

Do Champions have to donate, make referrals, or hire someone?

No. Individual volunteering is free. You are not required to donate, provide a referral, or hire a learner. Your time, feedback, and professional perspective are valuable contributions.

Companies that want to combine employee volunteering with financial support can explore a corporate partnership.

Partners & sponsors

Put your team’s experience and support to work.

How can a company partner with re:WORK?

Corporate partnerships combine financial support with employee involvement. Your team can contribute through career coaching, workshops, or other agreed activities that help learners build skills and relationships.

We discuss the activity, timing, employee involvement, and follow-up before a program is scheduled. Start with your social impact or employee-volunteering point person, and explore partnership options.

Is there a financial commitment for corporate partners?

Annual corporate partnerships start with a $1,000 minimum commitment. Company contributions, employee giving, and employer matching can count toward that commitment. The scope of activities and support is agreed with your team.

See the partnership and sponsorship options. If your organization wants to give without organizing employee volunteering, visit ways to support re:WORK.

Do we need to be hiring to become a partner?

No. Partnership does not require your company to hire. You can support learners through funding, employee volunteering, coaching, and professional connections whether or not you have open roles.

Hiring involvement is optional. If you choose to participate as a Hiring Partner, we agree on recruiting activities separately. Even then, there is no requirement to make a hire.

What can partners expect in an impact report?

Partners can see their employees’ contributions and learners’ documented progress through reports supported by MissionXP. Reports distinguish participation, learner progress, and documented hiring outcomes.

We agree on reporting scope and timing with you. Each report reflects the records available for that period. Explore our approach to evidence and measurement for more detail.

About re:WORK

The organization and ideas behind the program.

Is re:WORK TRAINING a nonprofit?

Yes. re:WORK TRAINING is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our EIN is 81-2873425. We help people build practical career skills and professional relationships through free training and community support.

Read our mission or view our nonprofit profile on Candid.

What do you mean by social capital?

Social capital is the value people can access through relationships: information, perspective, trust, support, and connections. In a job search, that might mean understanding a role more clearly, getting useful feedback, or meeting someone who helps you see a new opportunity.

We teach learners to build relationships through research, thoughtful outreach, useful conversations, and follow-through. A connection is not an automatic referral or a promised job.

What is MissionXP?
