RE:WORK FIELD GUIDE · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 25, 2026

Beyond the resume: make your skills easier to see.

A resume introduces your experience. It cannot show everything about how you think, communicate, or follow through. Give employers useful evidence they can discuss with you.

01 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Keep the resume clear and accurate.

Tailor your resume to the actual role. Describe relevant responsibilities, actions, and outcomes in language you can explain. Use numbers only when you know what they measure and can support them.

Follow the application instructions and use a readable format. No resume is “ATS-proof,” and a particular layout or keyword does not guarantee that an employer will select you.

02 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Add evidence that serves the role.

01

A specific story

Prepare an example of a problem, your action, and the result or lesson. Explain your own contribution.

02

A relevant work sample

Where appropriate, share a short piece of work that demonstrates a useful skill. Label practice work as practice and protect confidential information.

03

A useful conversation

Ask informed questions about the work. Show preparation, listen, and follow up on what was actually discussed.

03 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Use AI as a drafting aid.

AI can help organize experience notes, compare a draft with a job description, or suggest questions to consider. Review every statement, remove invented experience, and use your own judgment about what to share.

Do not provide confidential employer information or another person’s sensitive data. Read our responsible-AI preparation guide.

04 / PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Build trust without performing a different identity.

You do not need to become a different person to sound employable. Make the connection between your experience and the employer’s needs specific. A credible professional relationship develops through useful interactions and reliable follow-through.

Keep applying to suitable roles as you build that evidence. Practice your personal value proposition and prepare behavioral interview examples.
